Music
Our Vision and Approach in Music
Every child deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential through a culturally relevant, aspirational and knowledge rich curriculum. We want to inspire and develop an appreciation and understanding from across the canon; including different genres, time periods and cultures. Students will perform, compose and appraise music developing secure knowledge through active music making. By extending and experiencing music making beyond the classroom and into real world environments we hope to inspire students to become respectful, aspiration and proud learners.
How you can support your child’s learning in Music:
• Students will have a knowledge organiser for each of their schemes of learning. Students can use these to test themselves on the core content throughout the term.
• Encourage students to complete 30 minutes of practice on their instrument a day
• Encourage them to perform their piece to you. This will help build their confidence. It will also be clear to you, even if you are not musical, if they are making progress.
• Listen to a wide variety of music at home and go and see live music performances as much as you can.
• Students at KS3 will receive homework every two weeks containing retrieval knowledge tasks
• Students at KS4 will receive a homework booklet with tasks to complete every week.
