Careers education and guidance programmes make a major contribution to preparing young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. A planned progressive programme of activities supports them in choosing 14–19 pathways that suit their interests and abilities and help them to follow a career path and sustain employment throughout their working lives.

We achieve these goals in the following way.
Buile Hill Academy has invested in developing careers education advice and guidance as well as developing the curriculum in relation to student choices, decision making, raising awareness, widening participation and work related learning.
Our careers advisor is available to students for careers advice and guidance on a daily basis, and is based in the LRC.

Careers education cuts across all year groups and curriculum development in relation to student pathways with students from year 8 onwards and at key transition points.
This work also links to work based learning, curriculum, student pathways and development.
Buile Hill Academy has achieved the gold award in CEIAG which we are working to renew this year, this means that we meet the stringent criteria necessary to provide a first class service for all our pupils. Our work is regularly assessed externally by CEIAG professional organisations such as the Institute of careers guidance.
As part of student entitlement, careers education, information, advice and guidance is embedded across our curriculum, this involves guidance on labour market information, trends, decision making & choices, employability, curriculum vitae support, application form support including ucas progress, support with interviews and research techniques including career planning, and self awareness questionnaires such as plotr and icould buzz quiz.
We also provide independent and impartial careers advice and guidance to all our Year 8, 9 10 and 11 pupils on an individual basis where students have the opportunity to discuss post 16 options for further education, work based routes or employment. All work is monitored and evaluated from both a school and student/parent or guardian perspective. We have a wealth of materials and resources in our careers library and access to electronic versions via web based products.
We also hold a careers fair each spring with a range of employers, training providers, colleges and universities attending. Students have the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at the career fair, which includes practical task areas.
Students also visit colleges, sixth forms and other training providers during school year 10. There are also visits to universities and higher education fairs from year 8 onwards.
Mock interviews will also take place for year 10 students this year.

Consilium Academies are working with their schools to develop appropriate access arrangements which make sure that all our pupils have the opportunity to access a range of opportunities which provide advice and guidance on careers, including academic and technical qualifications and apprenticeships. Our preference is to provide events which cover all opportunities and allow pupils to receive a balanced approach to career guidance. During this period of development Buile Hill will allow access to recognised education and training providers to talk to pupils in Years 8-11 about appropriate approved programmes. The provider should email their request to either ConsiliumAcademies@consilium-at.com or the email address on the contact us page of the website, providing a range of dates and an overview of what will be offered. Unless this co-incides with a scheduled career event, any additional opportunities will be offered to pupils & their parents at the end of the school day. Providers should be prepared to produce information, flyers and presentations for pupils and parents in advance of the event as well as contact information as the school/trust will not be able to operate as a broker/manage attendance registers etc. (16.01.2018 A Simmons)
