Careers, Information & Guidance

Have you thought about your future?

College? Sixth Form? Apprenticeship?

What is your ideal job? What careers interest you?

Careers education and guidance programmes make a major contribution to preparing young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. A planned progressive programme of activities supports them in choosing pathways that suit their interests and abilities and help them to follow a career path and sustain employment throughout their working lives.

Consilium Academies are working with their schools to make sure that all our pupils have the opportunity to access a range of advice and guidance on careers, including academic and technical qualifications and apprenticeships. Our aim is to cover all opportunities and allow pupils to receive a balanced approach to career guidance. Buile Hill welcomes input from all providers of access to education, training and employment.

Here at Buile Hill, we strive to provide:

  • A stable careers programme
  • Learning from career and Labour market information
  • Addressing the needs of each pupil
  • Linking curriculum learning to careers
  • Encounters with employers and employees
  • Experiences of workplaces
  • Encounters with further and higher education
  • Personal guidance

As part of student entitlement, careers education, information, advice, and guidance are embedded across our curriculum, this involves guidance on the labour market, trends, decision-making & choices, employability, curriculum vitae support, application form support, support with interviews and research techniques including career planning, and self-awareness questionnaires.

We also provide independent and impartial careers advice and guidance to all our year 8, 9, 10, and 11 pupils on an individual basis where students have the opportunity to discuss post 16 options for further education, work-based routes or employment. All work is monitored and evaluated from both a school and student/parent or guardian perspective.

We also hold career fairs with a range of employers, training providers, colleges and universities attending. Students have the opportunity to ‘have a go’ at the career fair, which includes practical task areas.

Students also visit colleges, sixth forms and other training providers during school year 10. There are also visits to universities and higher education fairs from year 8 onwards.

Mock interviews will also take place for year 10 students this year.

Parents and Carers

We welcome the involvement and support of parents & carers within careers education and guidance. Parents & carers are welcome to arrange an appointment in school for any questions or queries regarding careers advice or post-16 destinations. Please phone the school on 0161 736 1773 to schedule this.

We also recognised that parents & carers have a wealth of knowledge and expertise within their own careers! If you would like to get involved in our careers programme yourself, please contact our SLT link Miss Woods by email: rebecca.woods@consilium-at.com.

Teachers

Our teaching staff have an active interest in getting the very best from our pupils and inspiring them to achieve in whatever they do when they leave Buile Hill. Our teachers are keen to promote the variety of careers and opportunities available within their own subject areas. Teachers can enhance careers activity through their subjects in a variety of ways - such as guest speakers in school, subject-focused careers trips, and employer led careers lessons, with employers helping to deliver aspects of the curriculum.

If teaching staff want to learn more about embedding careers into their lessons, staff can speak to Miss Woods, our SLT link for careers in school. We also have excellent support from Salford City Council through the Head of Participation (14-19) Sarah Scanlan, who teaching staff are welcome to contact by email - sarah.scanlan@salford.gov.uk to discuss any ideas or activities.

For any stakeholders - including employers, colleges, universities, apprenticeship providers, alumni or parents -  wishing to support our CEIAG programme at Buile Hill Academy, please phone the school on 0161 736 1773 to schedule this.
