Consilium Opportunity For Experiences Charter

We will aspire to provide the following opportunities as an entitlement during their time in one of our academies, to develop their social capital. These are Consilium’s ten opportunities:

  • A cultural event (a Shakespeare play, a classical concert/opera, visit a major art gallery)
  • A major sporting event.
  • An educational residential visit (national or international)
  • An outdoor education experience that is challenging. (there needs to be an adrenaline rush)
  • An opportunity to play a musical instrument.
  • Providing a reference or literature book as a memento/token of their time at the academy. This will have the academy and trust logo on the inside cover.
  • An opportunity to spend time with students with a different cultural background.
    Supporting a charitable activity.
  • A visit to a regional university.
  • An opportunity to be involved in voluntary/community event that could be externally accredited e.g. Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Providing appropriate experiences impacts more strongly on social mobility than raw outcomes.

Buile Hill Extra Curricular Information

Extra Curricular activity is central to our learning community. As the school’s visual arts specialism drives the school forward it plays an integral part in our extra curricular programme. The school has a long tradition of excellence in sporting activities and the arts, but all areas of the school contribute fully to our programme. As a school we have developed robust intervention strategies to support improving achievement at KS4, such as revision and exam skills sessions. This includes links with local colleges. We have endeavoured to put together a coordinated programme of study support across the school that enhances the learning opportunities of all students. We now have a programme of study support that provides huge variety and opportunity to our learners.

The school recognises the importance of Study Support and as such has promoted a coordinated approach. Study Support is led, evaluated and monitored by the Assistant Headteacher in charge of Teaching and Learning. Faculty leaders take ownership of the provision in their subjects, with every area providing opportunities for Study Support. In addition the school has a modern Learning Resource Centre (LRC) that provides a wide range of study support opportunities. A whole school approach, involving colleagues from across the school, has engendered a positive culture resulting in a significant increase in the range and scope of activities on offer.

QISS

In July 2012 we were awarded Quality in Study Support Accreditation at ‘Established’ level. The award recognises the high quality of extra-curricular provision we provide in school. It is a significant achievement as we are only the second school in Salford to achieve this award.
